Casa Lliber

Casa Lliber is our design for a modern ruin: a generous house situated on a hilltop in the warm landscape of Spain’s Costa Blanca. The living spaces are carefully interwoven with the surrounding landscape. On every façade, the panoramic views are framed in a different way, creating a continuous dialogue between the house and its setting. The architecture responds to the local climate and gently blurs the boundary between inside and outside.

Through passive design strategies, the house achieves a comfortable living environment throughout the year. Cross-ventilation through a central patio, generous shading, and thick stone walls regulate the indoor climate while minimizing the need for mechanical systems. Natural materials and a restrained colour palette allow the building to blend seamlessly into the landscape. A clear architectural rhythm is combined with organic forms and rough textures, giving the house the character of a “new ruin”—a timeless structure that feels both rooted in its place and shaped by time.
